primes

Julie Snapshot

There used to be a time that ,let’s call it “an older generation of photographers”
(have to watch my words here :) ) swore at using prime lenses and
I used to respond , aah, no hate to change lenses every 5 seconds
so give me a nice zoom-lens or two to cover the entire range I need .
Well, don’t get me wrong here , I still love zoom lenses and
the 24-70 and 70-200 have been the only lenses on my camera
since I bought it , but …. (there’s always a but …)
Today I mounted an old 24 mm on the cam and took it with me
at a restaurant with friends.
Ahh what a great relief , so light and instead of a whispering
fast focus , the cool sounds when the lens starts to “dance” ,
Yeah I know they have a name for this last word but I’m not
that much into specs and official terminology , shame on you Robin!
Anyway , to make a long story short, think I’m going to mount my
older primes a little bit more on the cam , as it just feels a lot more
comfortable and these older wide angles give you just a litte bit more
of that analog feeling , or is it just me …
Going to look for a second hand 20mm in the upcoming days,
so if someone has one in their cellar , let me know :)

Above pic is a snapshot from a friend (Julie) today with the 24mm @ 2.8

lazy

Posted in Kids, Projects by kemizz

No so many inspiration at the moment …
Just enjoying the weather and being damn lazy , aahhhh
Although I have to process still quite a lot but that won’t happen today.

And off-course a post comes with a pic , at least most of the times …
Here’s a shot I took few weeks ago . It’s a promo poster for
a kids bowling hall . Kinda like the dynamic in this pic …

backlog

Posted in Fun fun fun, Kids, Projects by kemizz

Yes, I’m facing a little backlog at the moment ….
Something about 60 giga and counting ….
In the long weekend I have 5 assignments , all journalism sets
where a big amount of pics will be taken , and this equals
off-course a huge amount of raw images to process and edit .
So people , pics are on their way , let’s just say the way is a little
bit longer (and with Lott’s more coffee and cigarettes :) )

Monster Metal Fest Mons

Posted in Events, Photography/Strobist by kemizz

Spent the entire day at the Vaux-Hall in Mons
where 15 hardcore and metal bands had a little party.

I shot a ridiculous 35 giga of raw pics so it will
take me quite some time processing them and this
will all be done in between the other assignments.
Anyway ,
Checked out a few already from L’Esprit du Clan
they are temporary stored HERE .
More later on beautiful noise

they sure love me up there

My blog is starting to look more and more like
a bad directed drama play.
Just now as things were back on track , it strikes
back , and this time new and improved… .

For those curious , here’s what happened:

At my apartment yesterday evening around midnight
I decided to go to sleep and started the walk upwards
the stairs . While putting my right foot on the second stair,
I somehow slipped and slammed with my face front on
one of the stair borders.
Being a little in panic by seeing the blood I immediately
checked my tooth and at first sight nothing wrong with them
just a lot of pain .
After the bleeding stopped I went to sleep and when
I woke up in the morning I soon realized what was wrong.
Two front teeth (crowns) were broken half in two …

A few hours later at the dentist I got the verdict.
A crack in my upper jaw bone, one broken tooth , and
some internal bleeding.
Crowns can be fixed , but this will have to wait 2 months
as the crack and broken tooth has to heal and recover first.

Anyway , this won’t stop me from taking new and finalize
current assignments.
I can only think shit happens …

A lot of communion shoots coming up and
the start of Myself and Olivier César’s project
Beatiful Noise “.
By the way , Olivier is out with my D3 tonight ,
I swear I’ll kill him (if something goes wrong :) ).

That’s all folks.

ORCUS

Yes , the long drama finally came to an end ,
and to celebrate I spent almost the entire weekend
away from my camera , and switched it to
beers and other alcoholic threats , I should be ashamed.
Anyway , I said almost …
Saturday afternoon I spent some time
with ORCUS to shoot a few pics at their studio recordings.

out of service

I’m a one week further now , and in the meantime
my dental operation went into every direction possible
except the smooth one …
This together with a effort to quit smoking really starts
affecting my mood , and at this very moment
I am one big bomb of stress , so lets hope things get better soon …
In between all the madness I started to look for a way
of processing digital images with a analoge black and white touch
as a result . This is required for a upcoming documentary project.
There is no way of getting exactly the same
result , but I think I finally got very close to the “real thing ” …
All pics below processed on digital Ilford XP2 …
